The playbook
- 1
Back Up Your Audible Library First
Go to audible.com → Account → Purchases. Screenshot your library or copy all titles to a text file. This is your reference for rebuilding in Morph. After canceling, access to your wishlist becomes harder.
- 2
Cancel via Web (audible.com) - Easiest Path
Open audible.com → Sign in → Account (top right) → Settings → Cancel Membership. Audible shows why you're leaving; select any reason (pricing, too many unheard books, switching services, etc.). Click 'Continue.' Confirm cancel.
- 3
Choose Cancellation Reason (Optional Feedback)
Audible asks 'Why are you canceling?' You can select: 'Too expensive', 'Not enough variety', 'Switching to another service', 'Other'. Selecting reasons doesn't affect cancellation—it's feedback only. You can skip.
- 4
Verify the Cancellation Screen
After 'Confirm', you'll see: 'Your membership has been cancelled' with an end date. Screenshot this. Your account remains active until that date; after, all access ends.
- 5
Check Confirmation Email
Audible sends 'Membership Cancelled' email to your registered address. Check within 10 minutes. If you don't see it after 1 hour, check Spam. This email is your proof of cancel.
- 6
If Paying via App Store (iOS) - Cancel There
iPhone: Settings → Your Name (top) → Subscriptions → Audible → 'Manage Subscription' → 'Cancel Subscription' → Confirm. This cancels the App Store payment. Audible account may remain active but billing stops.
- 7
If Paying via Google Play (Android) - Cancel There
Android: Google Play Store app → Menu (hamburger) → Subscriptions → Audible → 'Cancel subscription' → Confirm reason → Cancel. Google Play stops charging. Audible account active until billing date.
- 8
Verify No Further Charges
Check your bank/credit card statement next month on your old billing date. If Audible charged again, contact Audible support (audible.com/contact) immediately—you have 90 days to dispute.
- 9
Request a Refund (If Eligible)
If you prepaid for a membership or purchased credits you didn't use: audible.com → Contact Us → 'I want to return or get a refund' → Explain (unused credits, recent purchase). Audible typically refunds if request is within 7 days of purchase.
- 10
Start Morph Migration Today
While Audible access is still active: Export your library list (step 1), hunt for EPUBs/free versions, and start importing into Morph. You have until your final billing date to transition.
Common mistakes
✗Canceling via app instead of web—some cancellations don't process fully
→Always cancel via audible.com website for clearest confirmation. App-based cancellations sometimes get stuck in limbo.
✗Not checking email confirmation—assuming cancel went through without proof
→Email is your proof. Screenshot both the web confirmation and the email. Save for your records.
✗Assuming your Audible books transfer to Morph
→DRM-locked books don't transfer. Only free/DRM-free versions work in Morph. Plan ahead.
✗Canceling before exporting your library and wishlist
→Screenshot everything first. After cancel, your wishlist access becomes limited.
✗Forgetting to cancel app store/Google Play separately if paying there
→Web cancel and app store/Play cancel are separate. Do both if you paid through both channels.
Quick wins
- Screenshot your Audible library today
- Go to audible.com and start cancellation process right now
- Proceed through all steps—takes 3 minutes total
- Screenshot the 'Membership Cancelled' confirmation screen
- Wait for confirmation email (save it)
- Check your statement next month to verify no re-billing
After Canceling Audible: Switching to Morph
Canceling Audible frees you from the credit system and $14.95/month charges. Morph is $7.99/month for unlimited reading + TTS narration on any EPUB. While your Audible library is DRM-locked, you can find free versions (Project Gutenberg), library versions (Libby), or legally purchased DRM-free EPUBs. Morph's synced read-and-listen is faster than Audible's listen-only mode. Your library syncs across phone, web, and desktop. No subscription creep. No expiring credits.
