Privacy Policy
Last Updated: March 21, 2026
Morph Books (“Morph,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have regarding your data when you use our iOS application (“the App”).
By using the App, you agree to the collection and use of information as described in this Privacy Policy.
1. Information We Collect
1.1 Account Information
When you create an account, we collect:
- Email address (if you sign up with email or Google)
- Full name (if you provide one during onboarding or sign-in)
- Authentication tokens (managed by our authentication provider)
- Apple ID identity token (if you sign in with Apple; we do not receive your Apple ID password)
You may also use the App without creating an account; in that case, an anonymous session identifier is generated.
1.2 User-Provided Content
- Books (EPUB files): You import EPUB files from your device or via URL. Book files and extracted text are stored locally on your device. For premium subscribers, books are also backed up to cloud storage.
- Highlights: Text passages you highlight within books.
- Web articles: When you import a web article by URL, we fetch and extract the article content for reading within the App.
1.3 Reading Activity and Preferences
We store the following locally on your device (and, for premium subscribers, synced to the cloud):
- Reading progress: Current chapter, word position, and percentage complete for each book.
- Reading statistics: Daily reading time, reading streaks, and weekly activity. These do not include the content of what you read.
- Listening usage: Daily audio playback time, used to enforce free-tier listening limits.
- Preferences: App theme, font size, font family, line spacing, selected TTS voice, playback speed, daily reading goal, and yearly book goal.
- Onboarding survey responses: How you discovered the App, your reading goals, reading frequency, and previously used reading apps.
1.4 Audio and Speech Data
- Microphone audio: When you use the AI voice chat feature, microphone audio is captured locally and processed by Apple's on-device Speech Recognition framework to convert your speech to text. Audio is not recorded, stored, or transmitted to our servers.
- Text-to-speech: Book content is synthesized into speech either on-device or via third-party services as described in Section 3. Generated audio is cached locally on your device.
1.5 Subscription and Purchase Data
Subscription status (free or premium) is tracked. Purchase transactions are processed by Apple through the App Store and by RevenueCat. We do not collect or store your payment card details.
1.6 Device and Technical Data
We monitor network availability to determine when to sync data. We do not collect IP addresses, device identifiers, or device fingerprinting data. The App does not include any third-party analytics, crash reporting, or advertising SDKs.
2. How We Use Your Information
- Provide and maintain the App: Display your books, track reading progress, play audio, and sync your library across devices.
- Personalize your experience: Apply your chosen theme, font, voice, and reading goals.
- Power AI features: Send book context (title, author, chapter name, and a short excerpt) to OpenAI to generate AI reading assistant responses.
- Process subscriptions: Verify your subscription status to enable premium features.
- Sync your data: For premium subscribers, sync books, highlights, progress, and statistics across devices.
3. Third-Party Services
We use the following third-party services:
3.1 Supabase (Authentication and Database)
Receives email address, display name, authentication tokens, reading progress, book metadata, highlights, and reading statistics for authentication and cloud sync.
Privacy Policy: supabase.com/privacy
3.2 Cloudflare R2 (Cloud File Storage)
Receives EPUB book files for cloud backup (premium subscribers only). Files are stored in user-specific paths and are not accessible to other users.
Privacy Policy: cloudflare.com/privacypolicy
3.3 OpenAI (AI Reading Assistant)
Receives book title, author, current chapter name, a short passage of text, and your questions during AI chat sessions. We use the API, which has different data handling terms from ChatGPT.
Privacy Policy: openai.com/policies/privacy-policy
3.4 RevenueCat (Subscription Management)
Receives anonymous user identifier, subscription status, and purchase receipts from the App Store.
Privacy Policy: revenuecat.com/privacy
3.5 Apple (Sign-In, Speech Recognition, App Store)
All subscription payments are processed by Apple. Sign In with Apple provides a relay email address. Speech Recognition may be processed by Apple's services.
Privacy Policy: apple.com/legal/privacy
3.6 Google (Sign-In)
Google Sign-In is handled via Supabase OAuth. We receive your name and email address from your Google account.
Privacy Policy: policies.google.com/privacy
4. Data Storage and Security
Local data is stored in an on-device database and file system. Cloud data (premium only) is transmitted over HTTPS and stored in authenticated, user-specific locations. Generated TTS audio is cached locally and automatically evicted when it exceeds 1 GB.
5. Data Retention
- Account data: Retained as long as your account is active.
- Local data: Remains on your device until you sign out or delete the App. Signing out deletes all local data.
- Cloud data: Retained until you delete it or delete your account.
- AI chat conversations: Exist only in memory during your reading session and are not persisted.
6. Your Rights and Choices
- Your books remain your own files; you can access and export them at any time.
- You can delete individual books, highlights, or your entire account.
- You can revoke microphone and notification permissions via iOS Settings.
- European users (GDPR) have rights to access, correction, deletion, objection, and portability.
- California users (CCPA) have rights to know, delete, and non-discrimination. We do not sell personal information.
7. Children's Privacy
The App is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us.
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by updating the “Last Updated” date. Your continued use of the App constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
